Afaik from another post or article I saw before, it's still free but you have to renew every year and is still completely free autodesk 2018 products x-force download 2017 sketchup (for personal subscription & personal use). If autodesk dropped their free version the "maker" market would abandon them overnight, and those 'makers' have a huge influence over what is used in the commercial market.
