Multiple proposals have been suggested for the land, but the 18-acre plot continues to be occupied by the abandoned six-story building. Why does a large site in the periphery of Boston like this remain vacant for nearly two decades? To explore this question, I am conducting an overview of past and present proposals for the site. This project culminates in an accessible, digitally available booklet made for the public. This work is part of a Commonwealth Honors 499P project at the intersection of Sustainable Community Development , Public Policy, and Journalism. We will create a systematic characterization of the issues trans homeless adolescents experience. Through this, we intend to identify effective solutions and propose our own. This project will serve as a call-to-action for the larger public health, clinical, and scientific and political community, as the solutions required will be large structural changes and greater research into this subject. Pitch perception in cochlear implant users is impaired by the absence of fine structure cues (i.e, the rapid fluctuations in sound signals that influence timbre) normally present in unprocessed music and speech signals. However, research has not demonstrated significant improvement in music perception when fine structure cues are added to implant-processed speech. It is plausible that there is limited benefit to be had from adding fine structure, or that the subjects’ capabilities prevent them from receiving benefit from these cues. If there is benefit to be found from adding fine structure to musical stimuli, individuals with extensive musical training may be able to utilize it more than individuals without the same background. The purpose behind the present study is to investigate whether or not when fine structure is provided, if musicians will perceive CI-processed music any differently from non-musicians. In this experiment, two subject groups (musicians and non-musicians) will listen to familiar instrumental melodies and identify the musical instrument used.
